Flying in the age of Covid 19
(Video report – 4min – 2020)
The BBC Travel Show takes viewers on a journey of discovery as their presenters explore new destinations around the globe and uncover hidden sides to some of the world’s favourite holiday hotspots. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Travel Show was grounded and could not travel to film on location. Hanuman Films worked with the BBC to film the only ‘live’ content during the first UK lockdown with a report on the impact of Coronavirus on Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor.
Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious building, now lies abandoned once more, as Coronavirus first grounded the travel industry and has now put the global economy on life-support. The spread of Covid-19 spells suffering for Siem Reap and thousands of Cambodians working in the hospitality sector, the lifeblood of the economy.
The temples of Angkor have stood for a thousand years and the local villagers are the descendants of the God Kings of old. For now, their world stands still, their income has dried up and there is no state support system to catch their fall. Remember Angkor, remember Cambodia and remember the Khmers you once met in this small country with a big heart. They will be waiting with open arms.
