Beyond The Bridge

(Short Film – Hanuman Films – 40min – 2016)

Beyond The Bridge is a love story that transcends time and borders. The film begins in Cambodia against the backdrop of the nation’s civil war and the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge located in Phnom Penh. The piece stars Japanese actor Masaya Kato with Cambodian dancer-choreographer Chumvan Sodhachivy (also known as Belle), as his love interest. Shooting for the film took place primarily in Phnom Penh, as well as Tonle Bati.

Beyond the Bridge is part of the Asian Three-Fold Mirror project which brought together three directors from Japan, Malaysia and Cambodia to create a series of short films with a common theme, including award-winning Filipino director Brilliante Mendoza. Hanuman Films arranged all the production in Cambodia, including the complicated permissions such as closing the Japanese Bridge to traffic for one night and arranging permission to film in the National Museum. Beyond the Bridge is the second film from award-winning Cambodian Director Kulikar Sotho and premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival 2016.
