Social Distancing at Angkor Wat
(Video Report – 1min40 – 2020)
Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious building, now lies abandoned once more, as Coronavirus first grounded the travel industry and has now put the global economy on life-support. The spread of Covid-19 spells suffering for Siem Reap and thousands of Cambodians working in the hospitality sector, the lifeblood of the economy.
Now is the time for social distancing, but the time will come to travel once more and countries like Cambodia will need intensive care to get back on their feet. If you have enjoyed the warm smiles and generous hospitality of the Cambodian people, then please share your memories with family and friends when the time is right to travel again.
The temples of Angkor have stood for a thousand years and the local villagers are the descendants of the God Kings of old. For now, their world stands still, their income has dried up and there is no state support system to catch their fall.
Remember Angkor, remember Cambodia and remember the Khmers you once met in this small country with a big heart. They will be waiting with open arms.
The Hanuman Films team travelled up to Angkor Wat on 1 April 2020 to capture this majestic temple without the crowds.
