The Story We Share

Two worlds collide in this short film that sees a young teenager from the city live in a rural village to learn more about the realities of local life. Julian leaves behind his home, his high school and his comfort zone to spend time with a family in rural Siem Reap Province. He meets their son Leur who is about the same age and immerses himself in the routine of their day-to-day existence, helping to harvest rice and catch the fish for dinner. He learns about their commitment to study as they take English classes every day after regular school. He also realizes the challenges of education in rural areas when he teaches the village children how to use a laptop for the first time.

Hanuman Films worked with Julian and team to create this documentary concept and spent several weeks filming in the village in Angkor Thom District in Siem Reap. The end result is a heart-warming story that emphasizes we all have more in common that we realize despite our diverse backgrounds.
